Eindhoven Airport Closure 2027: Which Airport Your Flight Uses
If you open a booking for April 2027 and the departure airport is Eindhoven, the Eindhoven airport closure 2027 means that flight cannot leave from there, because the airport has no flights from 1 February to 18 July.
Introduction
If you open a booking for April 2027 and the departure airport is Eindhoven, the Eindhoven airport closure 2027 means that flight cannot leave from there, because the airport has no flights from 1 February to 18 July. Transavia and TUI are moving their flights to Weeze in Germany and to Maastricht Aachen, and Weeze alone can take roughly 2.5 to 3.5 hours each way by public transport. This article shows how to confirm which airport your own flight will use, how much longer the trip takes, and what to do step by step if your airline cancels or changes the booking.
Eindhoven airport closure 2027 dates
The airport has published the dates itself, so you can check them before you spend anything. There will be no flights from 1 February to 18 July 2027. Flights and the terminal start again on 19 July.[1] That is about five and a half months.
The reason is the runway. Eindhoven has only one, and it is being completely rebuilt. The work includes a better landing system for dense fog.[2] The Eindhoven Air Base uses the same runway.[3]
All commercial flights are either moved or cancelled by the airlines.[1] Flights before 1 February or after 18 July are unaffected. Reservations for parking on dates outside the window still work. The airport’s passenger page is the place to watch for updates.
Your airline’s replacement airport
Each airline publishes its own plan for the closure, and the airports named so far are listed below. Start with the airport shown on your booking and the airline’s own closure page.
Transavia will not fly from Eindhoven in the window. It uses Weeze, just across the German border, and Maastricht Aachen.[4] TUI uses the same two airports.[5] Transavia’s plan from Weeze covers 12 destinations until the end of March 2027, and the schedule may change.[3]
No detailed plan for moving Ryanair or Wizz Air flights to another airport had been published.[3] Passengers on either airline should contact the airline or wait for its update, and go by the airport on the booking in the meantime.
The alternatives side by side
Weeze and Maastricht Aachen are the two alternatives named by Transavia and TUI. Schiphol and Rotterdam are other Dutch airports, and your airline’s own page shows whether it offers either. For background on all of them, see our overview of international airports in the Netherlands.
| Airport | Airlines confirmed there | Getting there from Eindhoven | Travel time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weeze (Germany) | Transavia and TUI | Public transport, across the border into Germany. | By public transport: fastest 2h24, average 3h34[6] |
| Maastricht Aachen | Transavia and TUI | South-east of Eindhoven. Use a journey planner for your travel day. | No sourced time here. A journey planner will give one. |
| Schiphol | Not named by Transavia or TUI. Ask your airline. | Public transport. Plan it in your usual OV app. | Your OV app gives the time for your date. |
| Rotterdam The Hague | Not named by Transavia or TUI. Ask your airline. | Public transport. Plan it in your usual OV app. | Your OV app gives the time for your date. |
If Rotterdam is on your list, our Rotterdam The Hague guide covers the airport itself.
Extra travel time and trade-offs
The real price of Weeze is time. By public transport it takes roughly 2.5 to 3.5 hours each way, so a round trip adds about 5 to 7 hours.[6] For an early flight you will leave home very early. Look up the first and last connections for your flight times before you accept the booking, because a late arrival may leave you without a way home.
Baggage allowances and fees are set out on your airline’s own website, which is the authoritative place for the details.
Add up transfer, bags and parking for the Weeze trip, then price the same trip just before 1 February or just after 19 July. A flight on a different date sometimes costs less than a long transfer plus the extra day off work. Expect the alternative airports to be busier than usual, so allow extra time there.
Driving to Eindhoven during the closure, for example to drop someone off, is still possible, but only P1 short-stay parking is open. Shops and restaurants are closed. McDonald’s is open with adjusted hours, and buses run a modified timetable.[1]
Steps if your flight changes
Cancellations can come from the airline’s side for reasons that have nothing to do with the airport. KLM will cancel some flights from 26 October 2026 to early March 2027, because several aircraft are out of service for maintenance and parts are delayed. Passengers are usually rebooked automatically and can see their options in My Trip.[7] This is a separate matter from the Eindhoven closure, and only February and early March 2027 overlap with it. The routine is the same whichever one hits you:
- Confirm the airport and date on your booking.
- Read the airline’s message in full. It says what changed and what you can choose.
- Open the airline’s manage-booking tool (for KLM, My Trip).
- Choose a new flight or a refund.
- Keep receipts for anything you pay for because of the change.
- If the airline does not answer, escalate with your booking number, the dates and a copy of its message.
Decision path for an Eindhoven flight
- Is your flight between 1 February and 18 July 2027?
- No: nothing changes, so keep your booking.
- Yes: read the airline’s message.
- Flight moved to another airport: decide whether the longer trip works. If it does, keep the booking. If not, ask the airline about a different date or a refund.
- Flight cancelled: choose a refund or a new flight.
- No message yet: contact the airline or wait for its update.
If the airline cancels the Eindhoven flight instead of moving it, the refund and new-flight rights below apply. If it moves the flight, its message sets out your options, so follow the same steps.
What you are entitled to
When a flight is cancelled you can choose a refund or be put on another flight. The refund should arrive within seven days. While you wait at the airport you are entitled to meals and refreshments. If you are put on a next-day flight, you are entitled to a hotel.[8]
Compensation is a different question. It depends on why the flight was cancelled. For things outside the airline’s control, such as bad weather, there is no compensation, but you still get help.[8] When it applies, it is EUR 250 for flights up to 1,500 km, EUR 400 within the EU over 1,500 km, and EUR 600 over 3,500 km.[9] Compensation is still possible when a flight is cancelled less than 14 days ahead. The right to a refund or a new flight stayed in place in the 2026 update of the rules.[10]
With months of notice, the realistic outcome is a new flight or a refund, not compensation. Decide quickly which one you want, because the best replacement seats go first.
Spare luggage space and parcels
Travellers leaving from Weeze or Maastricht Aachen with a bag that is not full may wonder about carrying a parcel for someone. It is one option next to postal services and couriers, and many travellers never do it. A courier is simpler if you do not want any responsibility for the contents.
Anyone considering it should go in this order. First, read the airline’s baggage limits and fees, because a parcel counts toward your allowance. Second, read the customs and prohibited-item rules for the country you are flying to. Our guide on how to legally carry cargo as an air traveler covers both. Third, only carry what you have opened and inspected yourself.
SendByPass, the publisher of this blog, offers one such option, described on a page about how you can carry a parcel on a flight you’ve already booked. Students can read how this works for them in our student crowdshipping post.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are flights before 1 February or after 19 July affected?
No. The closure covers 1 February to 18 July 2027 only, and flights resume on 19 July. Parking reservations made for dates before or after the window still work as normal.[1]
Will my flight move to Schiphol?
Do parking reservations outside the closure still work?
Yes. Reservations before 1 February or after the airport reopens are not affected.[1] During the closure only P1 short-stay parking is open, so a reservation for another area in that window needs checking with the airport.
Is the KLM cancellation connected to the closure?
No. KLM said its cuts, from 26 October 2026 to early March 2027, come from aircraft maintenance and delayed parts.[7] The two only overlap in February and early March 2027. Handle each by the same steps: read the message, then rebook or refund.
Can I get compensation if my flight is cancelled months ahead?
